Michigan loses in 1st round of race for federal schools funding (Detroit Free Press)

The federal government has rejected Michigan’s initial bid for a share of $4.35 billion in stimulus funds to improve schools. It was unclear Thursday why Michigan — with some of the lowest-performing schools in the country — wouldn’t be considered for the first round of grant money.
