Swine flu toll 53 in Pune since April

As many as 99 people succumbed to the H1N1 influenza in the state against 1,174 positive cases since April. The mortality rate vis-?-vis fresh cases has been very high in Pune district as 53 people fell victim to the virus with 463 positive cases. Whereas Mumbai recorded 17 deaths against 436 positive cases during the same period.

WHO: Flu activity builds slowly in the Southern Hemisphere

Jul 9, 2010 (CIDRAP News) So far Southern Hemisphere countries have seen low levels of flulike illnesses during their flu season, with the pandemic H1N1 virus predominant in Chile, Australia, and New Zealand; in addition, a few other places in the world, such as India, Malaysia, and Singapore, are reporting active transmission of the virus, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported today.
