The U.S. Department of Agriculture has invited state departments of agriculture in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands to submit applications for grant funds under the Specialty Crop Block Grant Program-Farm Bill.

Seasonal flu rates called ‘minimal’ by CDC (Valley News Dispatch)

According to a CDC report, 3.7 percent of people across the United States, District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands tested positive for the seasonal flu. Last year, 11.5 percent of people tested positive during the second week of 2009.

Vietnam Premier Urges Rescue, Aid as Typhoon Death Toll Rises (Bloomberg)

Sept. 30 (Bloomberg) — Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung urged “rapid” rescue and relief for central Vietnam after Typhoon Ketsana left at least 34 people dead and 10 missing yesterday.
