A new study ranks Missouri near the bottom of all states when it comes to recovering from the great recession. The study projects economic activity for the next eight years. The only states projected to do worse than the Show-Me State: Ohio and Michigan. Economic projections through 2018 rank Missouri 49th out of 50 states and the District of Columbia when it comes to job growth. Why?

The federal government has rejected Michigan’s initial bid for a share of $4.35 billion in stimulus funds to improve schools. It was unclear Thursday why Michigan — with some of the lowest-performing schools in the country — wouldn’t be considered for the first round of grant money.

Winter weather has taken a bite out of Florida’s tomato crop and Michigan consumers can expect to pay the price. The Florida Tomato Growers Exchange, an agricultural cooperative, reports that much of the crop was devastated by the freezing temperatures. And some retailers in Michigan and elsewhere are turning to Mexican tomatoes to stock their shelves.
